Body protector manufacturer Racesafe has acquired the Nuumed and Thermatex brands.
Production of the much-loved British brands is to remain in the UK.
Manufacture of Nuumed saddle pads and Thermatex rugs is being integrated into the Racesafe factory in Corby, Northamptonshire.
An initial core range is expected to return to market in the coming months, says Racesafe. The company is consulting with retailers to prioritise the most commercially important and much-loved products.
Thermatex and NuuMed had latterly been owned by Baaj Capital Group’s subsidiary JDS59 which acquired the brands in 2023 from Vale Brothers.
The Cardigan factory where they were made is understood to have closed last November after a gradual shut-down. As supplies dried up, there was widespread dismay among consumers.
Now, former Nuumed and Thermatex teams are working alongside Racesafe’s machinists to transfer knowledge and restart the ranges.

“As a specialist UK manufacturer, we see real opportunity in combining their heritage products with Racesafe’s technical expertise, product development capability and manufacturing strength.
“Our intention is not simply to restart them, but to strengthen and evolve them carefully so they can thrive again.
“We are proud to keep these brands made in Britain,” adds James. “Retaining skills, knowledge and local production capability is vital for the long-term health of our industry. With the right structure and investment, British manufacturing remains both viable and important.”
