And it won’t rely on social media…

A saddlery brand is to inspire young riders to start the good habit of regular saddle fit checks.

The value of ongoing collaboration with a local qualified saddle fitter lies at the heart of the new GFS Saddles Youth Rider Support Scheme.

Young riders should know the name of their saddle fitter just as well as they know the make of their saddle, says Geoff Fieldhouse of GFS Saddles.

The programme will see riders aged 12 to 16 selected from across the UK to liaise with their local independent saddle fitters. Eligible fitters must be qualified and approved GFS fitters/stockists.

In the light of next Spring’s expected under 16s social media ban, the venture will rely mainly on personal instead of digital communication.

The young riders will not be expected to produce social media content, but encouraged to share their new-found saddle fitting experiences by talking to peers and parents.

“The strongest marketing tool is word of mouth,” said Maxine Scott from GFS Saddles. “This scheme is also about promoting our saddle fitters because we only sell to the trade.”

Young riders should know the name of their saddle fitter just as well as they know the make of their saddle, says Geoff Fieldhouse, managing director of GFS Saddles.

“This scheme is about educating the next generation, promoting horse welfare and showcasing the expertise of the independent saddle fitter,” he added.

Applications for the GFS Youth Rider Support Scheme will open later this year. Some recruitment will take place via The Pony Club of which GFS Saddles is a saddlery partner.
