And urges others to follow its lead.
SPILLERS has donated £5,000 to Redwings Horse Sanctuary following news that two of the charity’s five centres are threatened with closure.
A consultation is underway regarding the future of visitor centres at Redwings Mountains in Forfar, Angus and Redwings Oxhill in Warwickshire.
SPILLERS’ funding will help ensure the charity’s welfare and rehabilitation work can continue during the uncertainty. The feed brand has urged other companies to add their support.
Redwings blames rising costs for the crisis, adding that spending from financial reserves is unsustainable long term. The proposed centre closures will reduce operating costs unless further funding can be found.
Spillers has supported Redwings for more than 20 years. The charity has more than 1,000 rescued horses, ponies and donkeys in its sanctuary care and over 700 more living in ‘guardian’ homes.
“We are pleased to be able to help Redwings at such an important and difficult time and hope that other organisations may be able to follow our lead and donate too,” said Claire Dyett, marketing manager at Mars Horsecare, home of the SPILLERS brand.
“Every day this wonderful charity carries out invaluable work, providing safe homes and specialist care for rescued horses who might otherwise have nowhere else to go.
“We hope our contribution will help them maintain services at this challenging time and continue making a difference where it matters most.”
Redwings’ Nic Lowry added: “This generous donation from our loyal supporters at SPILLERS will help us to continue to deliver frontline welfare services and care for horses, ponies and donkeys in need while the consultation process goes ahead to decide on the closures.
“We very much hope that other kind-hearted organisations and individuals may recognise the urgency and make donations to help us navigate this worrying situation.”
