“Celebrating amazing work.”
Nominations are open for the 2026 BETA Equine Thesis of the Year which celebrates undergraduate studies.
The award, presented by the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA), is contested annually by students studying equine related subjects at universities and colleges in the UK and Ireland.
Each academic institution is invited to enter one study that demonstrates value to the equestrian or equine industry.
After preliminary judging, four finalists present their theses live at an online final. The winner receives a trophy and cash prize.
“By celebrating students in this way, we can shine a light on some of the amazing work universities and colleges do, as well as individual students’ thoughtful presentations and ideas,” says Claire Williams from BETA.
“Over the years, we've been treated to some thought-provoking theses that address real world problems the industry and the equines within it experience. We're looking forward to seeing this year's entries.”
Last year's winner was Giorgia Monti from Limerick University with her study Diagnostic validation of the indirect ELISA for the detection of Equine Arteritis Virus (EAV) antibodies for screening purposes.
The closing date for the 2026 BETA Equine Thesis of the Year is Monday, 13 July, with the shortlist announced in September. Colleges and universities should register their intention to nominate by Monday, 15 June 2026.
