€10 MILLION REASONS TO KEEP RIDING HAT HARNESS DONE UP

Flapping strap leads to costly undoing.

An unfastened riding helmet has cost an international showjumper a place in a multi-million-euro competition.

French showjumper Simon Delestre and Cayman Jolly Jumper produced a clear round in a Global Champions League (GCL) Playoff in Prague.

But hours after the competition, Delestre was eliminated because his helmet harness had come undone four fences from home.

Now he’s lost his appeal against the decision that cost his Istanbul Warriors team a place in the GCL Super Cup final with its €10 million prize pot.

Last week, Delestre unsuccessfully challenged his elimination at an FEI Tribunal. He has a fortnight left to lodge a further and final appeal to the Council for Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The entire FEI Tribunal decision is here.
