Product gets a makeover to highlight the issue.
Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS) isn’t only an issue for high-performing sports horses, a feed brand has warned.
And now SPILLERS is showcasing fresh packaging for its Ulca Fibre to broaden its appeal to even more leisure owners.

But while the outside of the bag has changed, the popular product’s ingredients and formulation remain the same.
“Every horse owner should be aware of EGUS because it isn’t just confined to high-performing sports horses,” says a spokesperson for SPILLERS.
“Statistics show that up to 50% of leisure horses may have gastric ulcers, so could benefit from a feed that’s been proven to help support horses prone to gastric ulcers following veterinary treatment.”
Reduced forage intake and diets high in starch and sugar can increase the potential for ulcers, adds SPILLERS. Gastric acid splashing onto the lining of the stomach’s non-glandular region during exercise can also heighten the risk.
“Basing the diet on forage and restricting the amount of starch and sugar fed per day and per meal are key to reducing the risks of non-glandular ulcers,” says Sarah Nelson, product manager at Mars Horsecare, home of the SPILLERS brand.
“We recommend advising your customers to choose feeds based on fibre and oil if their horse needs a high calorie feed."
The new Ulca Fibre bags are currently being rolled out to retail stockists.
