Encouragement for others to “take the leap.”

Charlotte Cheesman and Paige Archibald are the first to gain the new City & Guilds Assured Certificate in Bridle Fitting, including measuring and bitting.

The qualification, developed and delivered by the Society of Master Saddlers, combines online learning with practical training. Successful candidates become Society of Master Saddlers’ Registered Qualified Bridle Fitters.

The training is designed for people aiming to pursue a professional career in bridle and bit fitting and takes approximately 18 months. The next course starts in August.

“I'd wholeheartedly encourage anyone considering it to take the leap,” said Paige who is from Northumberland.

Charlotte Cheesman is one of the first two holders of the redeveloped qualification.

“I've seen first-hand just how vital well-fitting tack is. It's our first and most important line of communication with the horse, and it has to be right.”

Kent based Charlotte said that when the Society of Master Saddlers introduced the course, she “knew immediately it was something I wanted to pursue.

“The growing body of research in this area is fascinating. It's increasingly clear just how significantly bridle fit can influence a horse's comfort and freedom of movement, and I was eager to deepen my understanding of that.”
