Predecessor moves to a senior advisory role.

Dr Edd Knowles has been appointed global science and nutrition director for Mars Horsecare, home of the SPILLERS brand, and head of the Equine Studies Group - Waltham Petcare Science Institute.

Edd Knowles, a vet with a strong track record in research, joins Mars Horsecare, home of the SPILLERS brand.

He replaces Dr Pat Harris who transitions to a senior advisory role after 30 years with Mars.

Edd will continue to develop and manage the Mars Equine research strategy and support the development of Mars Horsecare products and associates.

Edd graduated from Cambridge University as a vet in 2005, initially working in small animal practice before moving to equine practice in 2007. He became a specialist in equine internal medicine seven years later.

Edd previously worked at Bell Equine Clinic where he balanced clinical work with research, focussing on laminitis.

With the support of Waltham, he completed a PhD in laminitis prediction in ponies at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in 2021. He is also involved in ongoing research into equine atypical myopathy (sycamore toxicity) with the RVC.

Describing his predecessor Dr Pat Harris as “a great collaborative scientist,” Edd says he is “delighted to join the teams at Mars Horsecare and Waltham and excited to develop the research to further improve equine health and welfare.”

Fiona Cayzer, general manager of Mars Horsecare, added: “We are immensely grateful to Pat for her significant contribution to Mars and we warmly welcome Edd to the team.”
