Product to be supplied “exclusively through stockists.”

The UK’s largest independent timber importer and processor has invested £2 million in baling and packaging technology to create a new equine bedding brand.

Wood & Slumber is produced by Arbor Forest Products from pine and spruce handled in its sawmill on a 90-acre site in New Holland, Lincolnshire.

The softwood small-flake shavings are made from sterile, kiln dried, sustainable wood and are a by-product of Arbor’s timber processing operations.

The bedding is available exclusively through stockists nationwide, a move the manufacturer says will support local retailers and specialist equine outlets.

Arbor says it’s “working towards a BETA NOPS accreditation” for Wood & Slumber to demonstrate its quality protocols, sourcing provenance and traceability.

The company produces more than 15,000 tonnes of wood shavings each year, equivalent to around 750,000 bales. Wood & Slumber bedding is processed on-site using sieving and dust extraction systems.

“At Arbor, we’re committed to making the very best use of every part of the timber we process,” said Phil Yell, operations director at Arbor Forest Products.

“Wood & Slumber is a natural extension of that ethos – turning what was once processed and packed by others into a valuable premium product carrying Arbor’s own branding.”

Established in 1951, Arbor Forest Products is the largest privately owned timber terminal in the UK.

The company maintains more than 80,000 square metres of timber on-site and employs almost 200 people.
