Three talks at inaugural event will “directly impact sales.”

BETA’s first Safety Conference next week (Tuesday 21 April at Loughborough University) has a packed programme that addresses many aspects of equestrian safety.

“In the final run up to the conference, we wanted to draw your attention to three talks that promise to be interesting and informative, but can also directly impact sales too, making them perfect for the retailers attending the event,” says a spokesperson for the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA).

Designing Safer Helmets: Understanding Rotational Protection with Robin Spicer, Technical Design & Innovation Lead at Lemieux.

Robin is a RedDot award winning British designer, starting his career at DCA Design International at the same time as founding Armis Sport, a company later acquired by La Martina in 2018. He has previously been Head of Product at HEXR and pioneered 3D-printed cycling helmets. During his time at HEXR, the company pivoted toward advanced ingredient technologies with Robin being named on multiple patents focusing on reducing rotational energy transfer to the brain.

Fitting a diverse rider population. Jade Faulkner, Head of Product & Brand Development at Charles Owen; Dave Derby, CEO of Charles Owen; Lydia Heywood and Jayda Everett from Cool Ridings; and Kathryn Jaquet, RB Equestrian.

This session will focus on a significant piece of work undertaken by Charles Owen with Cool Ridings, to understand more about fitting hats safely to every rider, regardless of hair type or background.

Innovation Forum Discussion Panel and Q&A. This session will feature Zoe Bryant from Racesafe, Robin Spicer from Lemieux, and Meghan Barnes-Wood from Champion.

Innovations in safety present and future will be discussed here, with each panellist bringing their unique perspective on the subject. In addition, there will be ample opportunity for people to ask questions.

“This really is just a snapshot of the day, but rest assured that every delegate will leave the conference full of new information and insight to help support customers/colleagues/students in their safety and understanding. It’s an event not to be missed,” added the BETA spokesperson.
