SCHOLARSHIP “OPENS DOORS” FOR FLEDGLING BUSINESSES

Entries are open for the 2025/26 Abbey England Scholarship for up-and-coming saddlers, leatherworkers and crafters. 

The top prize includes £500 worth of products plus business mentoring and training.

The winning scholar will attend a masterclass with renowned saddler Godfrey Morris.

This is the eighth year that workshop supplies wholesaler Abbey England has hosted the international competition designed to showcase leatherworkers’ talents. 

The winner will be invited to a masterclass hosted by master saddler Godfrey Morris MBE at the Walsall Leather Skills Centre on 7 November. Ten tickets for other scholarship applicants will be drawn at random.

Last year’s scholarship winner Katy Warriner said of the experience: “It gave me a real confidence boost.

“The recognition I’ve received has opened doors, started conversations, and inspired me to share my craft more openly.

Abbey England’s CEO and scholarship judge Richard Brown added: “We are looking forward to celebrating the people behind the craft as much as the craft itself. I greatly look forward to reviewing the new entries.” 

Entries close on Friday, 24 October.
