“Support in a challenging year.”
Traders rated the London International Horse Show - which concludes today (22 December) after five days at ExCel – a success.
In what has been a taxing year for most businesses, the equestrian community came out in their numbers ready to spend in the show’s legendary shopping area.
In a sign of the times perhaps, square footage of stands had shrunk almost across the board, with probably only the likes of popular clothing brands Holland & Cooper and Fairfax & Favor having impressively sized pitches.
Most were happy with the layout of the shopping area; many commenting that the red carpet really helped boost the aesthetics and atmosphere.

Attentive team
Most business owners reported that the show was better and busier than 2024.
And many were keen to say how attentive and supportive the ExCel organising team is. Traders particularly like the daily updates, refreshment room and regular visits to check how things are going.
This level of care is so important for trade stand staff, many of whom had been at the venue since Wednesday, or even Tuesday, morning.
So close to Christmas
By Friday evening, almost half way through, tired staff still had a further three full days and then ‘break down’ to get through.
That this show is so close to Christmas makes working a stand especially demanding.
“It’s no-one’s fault, it’s just how it’s fallen,” said one trader. Although another was sad to be “missing out on time with my small children in the lead up to Christmas Eve.”
Footfall was up
The consensus was that footfall in the first half of the show was up on last year. Perhaps holding the grand prix dressage later in the day on the Thursday had drawn in more spectators?
Many stands happily reported orders and purchases - from toys to designer gear, jump accessories to horseboxes - being better than last year.
Many businesses were marketing new ranges from saddles to clothing. While excitement surrounded a silent auction for a Venice themed model house to be delivered to the highest bidder in time for Christmas.
Well done, ExCel, for a great show – and for supporting the equestrian trade in what has been a challenging year.
