“The loss or suffering of a horse is heartbreaking.”

Research to combat Equine Grass Sickness (EGS) has received a £15,000 boost thanks to two trailer companies.

North Wales-based Ifor Williams Trailers joined forces with its Scottish distributor Stirling Trailer Centre to donate a top-of-the-range HBX506 trailer for an online fundraising raffle.

EGS remains one of the biggest causes of death in horses, ponies and donkeys across Britain with eight in ten cases proving fatal.

The Moredun Foundation Equine Grass Sickness Fund (EGSF) – which benefitted from the fundraiser - is the only registered UK charity dedicated solely to tackling the disease.

Anne Logan, a vet from EGSF, thanked Ifor Williams Trailers and Stirling Trailer Centre. “We are absolutely blown away by their support, they’ve been very generous."

Ifor Williams Trailers marketing manager Joe Pardoe added: “The loss or suffering of a horse is heartbreaking for its owner and we are only too pleased to be doing our bit to help find a cure for ESG.

Sean Cooper, general manager at Stirling Trailer Centre, valiantly travelled all the way to Hampshire to deliver the prize trailer to its lucky winner, Carol Cheshire from North Baddesley.
