The finalists for the 2025 Safety Equipment Fitter of the Year have been named.

The award is one of a series British Equestrian Trade Awards - the BETAs - presented annually by the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA).

The Safety Equipment Fitter of the Year, sponsored by BETA, recognises the work undertaken by hat and body protector fitters based in equestrian shops.

The shortlisted nominees have all demonstrated a high level of knowledge - and willingness to go the extra mile when it comes serving to their customers.

The finalists are:

Emma Butt - Romsey Saddlery, Hampshire

Gillian Payne - Barnstable Equestrian Supplies, Devon

Maggie Lawton – Carharrack Farm & Country Store, Redruth, Cornwall

“BETA cares deeply about the safety of all equestrians,” says the trade association’s Claire Williams.

“We developed and continue to administer the BETA Body Protector Standard, and BETA champions rider safety via our involvement with bodies such as British Equestrian at national level and the FEI internationally.

“BETA also trains retail shop staff – like those shortlisted for this award – to help riders find the most suitable and best-fitting hats and body protectors for them.

“We’re determined to give every equestrian access to personalised product fittings and advice to enable them to enjoy their horses safely. This award celebrates that quest.”

The Safety Equipment Fitter of the Year will be announced at the BETA Gala Dinner on Sunday 28 September at the Hilton Metropole, NEC, Birmingham.

The BETAs are made up of eleven awards with more finalists to be announced soon.
