A wellness gadget is outlawed too.
Show jumpers may no longer use certain bits, spurs and nosebands in competition following a rule change.
British Showjumping (BS) has announced that from Wednesday (1 April), the Beris Comfort Tandem Bit - a type of combination bridle - and a Cheltenham gag with roundings are no long permitted.
The Stephens Continental Hackamore is also banned.
Any bits and hackamores with adjustable mechanisms are outlawed, as are rope nosebands.
A hackamore nose-piece must be flat and made from non-abrasive material. Padding or sheepskin are permitted but no metal pieces may be inserted into the nose-piece or padding.
A hackamore’s back-strap must be leather and fastened with room to insert a noseband [tightness testing] wedge or two fingers between it and the horse’s jaw,
Only one noseband may be worn in BS competition. Riding without a noseband is allowed.
Bit lifters and Worcester nosebands are off limits.
Wellness gadget named
BS has specifically outlawed use of the Garmin Blaze Equine Wellness System. The tail wrap sends real time data about a horse’s heart rate, gait, strides and so on via Bluetooth to a smartphone.
Bridle clips are no longer allowed, except on the throatlash.
Also joining the banned list are hammerhead spurs and bit burrs.
