“Mary King couldn’t have been more generous with her time.”

For the first time in its 141-year history, Horse & Hound is to produce a Junior Special.

The 36-page section of the weekly magazine’s 5 June issue is set to inspire the next generation of riders.

Horse & Hound’s 5 June issue includes a 36-page section devoted to young equestrians.

Mary King and Lottie Fry are among the big names appearing in the supplement which also has card games, quizzes and posters.

Horse & Hound’s Junior Special is dedicated to seven to fourteen-year-olds and their parents.

Other content includes interviews with 23-year-old eventing star Alice Casburn and showing champion Harlow White. Mary King presents fun polework exercises and Tom McEwen’s groom Adam Short demonstrates perfect plaiting.

"There's a lot of good feeling and goodwill around this special – more than I can remember experiencing in the past decade,” said H&H editor-in-chief Sarah Jenkins.

Many of the featured equestrians “expressed how much they love the opportunity to help and engage with the next generation of riders and horse lovers,” added Sarah.

"On a polework photo-shoot, Mary couldn't have been more generous with her time, inviting all the children taking part to have their picture taken with her and her Olympic medal, which made their day.”

Sarah hopes this will be the first of many similar opportunities.

“One article, one interaction, one experience can be enough to light or cement a lifelong love of equestrianism – as we all well know,” she said.
